Piyaz - Turkish Restaurant

NOTE ITS BEEN ABOUT 2 Weeks since I went,I´m Just now able to put up a review

well I went to Piyaz not knowing what to expect........Actually thats half true I went there with an expectation of everything being standard Israeli fare relabeled as turkish, thankfully I was wrong

My Wife ordered the Lamb Shwarma, She was disapointed expecting it to be........Shwarma. I knew as soon as I saw it what it was.................... Döner! YES DÖNER! KOSHER DÖNER IN NYC! the taste reminded me of my trefa days eating Döner and Gyros. The rice however...we will get to later

Next up my order, Lahmacun. Now the Lahmacoun was really red, I mean REALLY RED! like raw meat. So I took a deep breath and dug in halfway expecting something like kibeh nayeh (raw meat/steak tartar type dish) but.....it was fully cooked and DELICIOUS! it was not raw at all. Now lets get one thing cleared up, Im no stranger to Lahmacun,Well at least not to La7majoun I make it all the time but never have, I seen it as Red, mine comes out more brownish due to the sumac

Lastly,My Mother got the Chicken Kebab, It was delicious! The rice however has a very familiar taste............UNCLE BENS PARABOILD INSTANT RICE! no excuse for a restaurant to be using instant rice! shame on them!

Sum up

Pros: Probably only Kosher Döner in America

Cons: Expensive,Paraboiled rice

Review of Kosher subway in Manhattan

Well, I had attempted to go to this mythical place of legend (a place with no website and small fanfare compared to the ones in Brooklyn) on Sunday, only to find out it is closed on Sundays (because of its location in the financial district i reckon).

I finally managed to get there (after walking the maze of streets that make up the wall street area).

As I made my way on queue i noticed how busy they where making what seemed like 10 sandwiches simultaneously, occasionally forgetting who ordered what. Several individuals tried ordering the soy cheese as "cheese" and instead of the workers just correcting and saying "Soy cheese" or as they call it "Melt". They proceeded to get irritated at the gentlemen saying that they don't serve cheese at the kosher establishment (something that is obvious as all over the establishment its written that all cheese is soy) after my curiosity piqued i inquired whether they in fact did have soy cheese since or not since they keep rejecting peoples requests.

They stated to me that they in fact do have it (they call it "melt")

they should just automatically infer people mean "Soy cheese" when they say "cheese" it would save them lots of time and aggravation, they should take a hint from Pizza professor (who does not bite your head off when ordering "pepperoni", "Chicken" etc as they automatically infer you mean soy pepperoni etc )

My main reason for going there as opposed to Brooklyn can be summed up in two words "SOY CHEESE" however when i got there they had already run out of soy cheese. Disappointed i never proceeded to place an order for a meatball sandwich. I ordered a 6 inch (so that i could sample another type of sandwich once i was done) it cost 10.99!!!! thats more than the cost of a 12 inch at the Brooklyn subway. My sandwich was made by the Mashigiach as the workers all had their hands full. After he added the meatballs he passed it directly to the cashier! ie he bypassed the veggie station, now I understand most folks eat their meatball subs as is, but I like onions and hot peppers on mine. I told the cashier, He apologized and promptly put some pepperoncinis (my other gripe no jalapenos at this location) and Onions on it. Crisis averted

after eating it, I was still hungry so I spent another ridiculous 10 bux on another 6 inch (spicy italian) after asking exactly what was in it (My answer was "some type of meats, mexican something") this mystery meat sandwich was surprisingly good for a cold cut sandwich ( I put chipotle on it)

Oh I almost forgot, there was something off about the bread, it wasn't "subway" bread in shape or texture, the Subway in brooklyn gets that right (as well as price).

all in all Slightly disappointing but good.
